Indigo Bunting (molting)

Passerina cyanea

Description:

Mostly gray with new blue feathers showing through. Thick bill and stocky body.

Habitat:

This bird did some disappearing but when found was eating berries from shrubs and blackberries. Found in the California Native and near the fenced off reservoir.

Notes:

Only the second time I've seen an Indigo Bunting in California. Spotted in SF Botanical Gardens. Spotted with two Black-headed Grosbeaks and one female Lazuli feeding on berries.
