Hairy parchment polypore mushrooms

Stereum hirsutum

Description:

I have never seen so many mushrooms on one dead tree log. After a lot of research on both the web and the National Audubon Society's field guide to mushrooms, I think this is a hairy parchment polypore. This picture shows both the top of the log and the underside.

Habitat:

These mushrooms were spotted on a wooded swamp (watery) trail at Shepard State Park in Gautier, Mississippi
