Zebra Sapseeker

Tigridia acesta

These butterflies habitually sit on the tree trunks in a head downwards posture, at a height of about 2 metres, to imbibe sap and moisture from crevices in the bark. When one approaches the tree, they often run around to the other side, out of sight, and if you follow them around, they run to the opposite side again. One can end up chasing them in circles around the tree !
