Calliandra brevipes
Evergreen, perennial, densely branched shrub or small tree arranged with alternate, bipinnate, dark green leaves and attractive, brush-like flower heads. The deeply cut red sepals of individual flowers are dominated by countless, long stamens. These are at the base white and change color towards the tip purple-pink.
The genus Calliandra is mainly spread with 150 to 200 species in the Neotropics of New Mexico to Chile. Six species occur in Costa Rica, one of them only there. In Argentina there are eight species and in Chile only one type. In Cuba, there are seven types. Flora of China 2010 indicates that some species in India, Madagascar and Myanmar are located. Some species (eg Calliandra houstoniana var. Calothyrsus, Calliandra haematocephala, Calliandra surinamensis) are in the tropics and subtropics worldwide neophytes.
