Cocoon parasitised by cordyceps fungus

Description:

The butterfly inside the cocoon is clearly formed. I wonder if the larva already carried the fungus's spores when it made the cocoon, or if the fungus instaled later in the process.

Now that you mentioned it, bayucca, I think you're right. I also think that I must stop edditing my photos late at night, after a whole day walking in the bushes. That makes my brain cells slow down... thank you for showing me that.
