Aramus guarauna
A beautiful, timid and shy, demure wading bird. Brown plumage with white spotting. Long, slightly down turned curved beak, used for filtering water near shore for its favorite food, Apple Snails. Has a call similar to the Sandhill Crane, but slightly higher level.
Often found near water's edge at fresh water wetlands. Can be seen perched in palm trees.

congrats on your nomination, James!
Thank you Fyn. I appreciate the honor and recognition. Good luck to all those nominated.
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
Thanks Desmond
