Eastern Hercules Beetle female

Dynastes tityus

Description:

Finally a live one! This female Eastern Hercules Beetle found her way onto our back deck one night. She was the first live one I had found, even with so many in 2015. The females of this species have no horns but are still quite large in size (giant by beetle standards). Her color was a pale yellow with spots on the elytra. Underside is reddish brown. This species is reported to be the heaviest in North America!

Habitat:

Suburban yard.
