European Starling

Sturnus vulgaris

Description:

I believe this to be a European Starling

Habitat:

In trees growing near a frozen lake where a small area is kept open by my neighbor's geothermal heat pump, within one city block of woods, marshland and farm fields

Notes:

Earlier this winter I was putting out: black-oil sunflower seed, safflower seed, niger thistle, whole kernel corn, roasted unsalted peanuts in the shell and beef suet. These starlings appear to spend the most time on or near the beef suet but when I was putting out corn, I'd usually see them near the corn piles as well.
