Hi Eric, this is not a Common Octopus, but a Starry Night Octopus.
Starry Night Octopus usually comes out at Night to hunt/feed.
You can see the greenish coloration on the top of the tentacles in Pic #2 & #3, which is one of the feature of the Starry Night Octopus.
Also, if you were to recall during your sighting of this Octopus, they don't change color much, it is mostly brownish red all the time.
The Common Octopus changes and flashes its color a lot as it moves around.
