Masked Lapwing

Vanellus miles - novaehollandiae

Description:

Yellow mask with facial wattle noticeable in photo 2. Race novaehollandiae seen here has black crown, nape and bands down the side of the breast. We heard them throughout our time in the garden as they are very common there.

Habitat:

Sydney Botanical Garden is the best place around to have a good look at these aggressive lapwings. Parks, fields, beaches, airfields, across Eastern and Northern Australia.

Just added a couple more photos to this spotting as the first ones were overexposed. These grey days at home are making me yearn for that Australian sun and all these bright sunny birds!
