Northern water snake

Nerodia sipedon sipedon

Description:

Also known as the common water snake. They can get to be over four feet long, but this little one is just a youngster. The oxalis leaf and the moss provide good scale. I like the second picture in part because of the orbweaver web.

Habitat:

In and around the water.

That's amazing. I'd love to see that.

Great find. It is amazing how snakes can suspend themselves on the top of vegetation without sinking in. Once I saw one suspended on a tall grass, at least 3 feet off the ground. The grass didn't look like it should support the snake.
