Callimetopus capito
Callimetopus capito Pascoe, 1865. A member of the Family: Cerambycidae, this is a dark brown beetle pretty much completely covered in fine light brown spots. The feature which enables quick recognition is the presence of two large irregularly shaped white marks, one on each elytron. For more information on this beetle there is an extremely good scientific paper written by a group of Filipino academics which can be downloaded. It is a gold mine of easily understood information about this species. They call it a Mango Twig Borer. This is the Citation: Adoro L, Domingo F, Baysa J, Dela Cruz B, Dacayo N, Garcia S, Farin E, Roxas A, Lutap L. Life history of mango twig borer, Callimetopus capito (Pascoe) Coleoptera, Cerambycidae. J Entomol Zool Stud 2017;5(1):488-492. The link is in my notes below.
This beetle landed on my hand when I was taking a picture of a butterfly and it stayed just long enough for me to get 2 photos. As for the habitat, I was standing in on the boundary between 2 rice fields (at a time of year when there was no crop growing). I could not tell where it had come from or where it was going, but it is important for me to mention that the rice fields in that place are almost entirely surrounded by Mango Trees.
