Paracentrotus lividus
Reddish brown small sea urchin, measuring in diameter some 6 to 7 cm, without counting spines. Spines are often disheveled and moving. They reach some three cm in length, and cover the entire body, they can be found also around the mouth opening.
Found outside the sea on rocks - probably left by children. Found often on rocks with plenty of seaweeds. Prefers deeper water, even though we often found it in shallow waters.
All sea urchins are my son's finds - he adores all sea creatures, and usually spends all of his holiday looking for them. Sea urchins are among his favorites; and after taking them (he is doing it rather expertly, I must admit) out, we take photos and put them back into water.
