A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Psychiidae, Oiketicus kirbyi
This is a quite rare photo, as it shows a great part of the larva's body. It is possible to see the silk that the larva uses to attach plant debris to its body. O. Kirbyi is an extremaly polifagous species, feeding on more than 40 species of plants. It is found from northern Argentina to Mexico and caribean islands.
This species is found in many different habitats, from dry, temperate climates of South America to tropical rain forests. This specimen was found on a small bush, in a dry, well preserved secondary wood.
