Grey Headed Flying Fox

Pteropus poliocephalus

Description:

Large fruit eating bat , large body, rusted orange coloured body with a mid grey head.

Habitat:

Seen in a large colony hanging from giant eucalyptus trees along the banks of the Yarra river.

Notes:

This colony has been in Melbourne for some time, often neighbourhoods get tired of the noise and the chatter that they make and the council gets pressure to move them. They do this by persistent noise and disturbance, preventing them from returning to the roost in the morning, and creating noise and disturbance so they can't rest during the day.... quite quickly the colony moves along to another spot.
