Laughing Kookaburra

Dacelo novaeguineae novaeguineae

Description:

The Laughing Kookaburra or the Laughing Jackass as it has been called, is the largest member of the Kingfisher family. They "[are] generally off-white below, faintly barred with dark brown, and brown on the back and wings. The tail is more rufous, broadly barred with black. There is a conspicuous dark brown eye-stripe through the face." (Birdlife Australia: http://birdlife.org.au/bird-profile/laug... )

Habitat:

Flew into the tree at the park in Nanango.

Notes:

"It gets its moniker from its manic laughter-like call. And its early dawn and dusk cackling chorus earned it the nickname “bushman’s clock.”" (National Geographic: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/animal... ). The Kookaburra's call is used to establish its territory among family groups. (Wiki)
