Two Spined Spider

Poecilopachys australasia

Description:

This is one of the coolest spiders you will ever see. I am presuming it is a bird dropping spider, but not too sure. Body is green to brown with large stripes of white and two spines on the dorsal surface with the same colouration. some blending of yellows and creams around the edges and underside. From afar it looks quite like a bird dropping.

Habitat:

Seen in an urban garden in New Zealand

Notes:

Love spiders, but again rubbish at identification. If you have any ideas, please suggest.

None that I know of JGS... glitches may be applicable to particular browser, OS, app combo though. Maybe best to discuss on the FB PN group. I'll check the issues log later.

Hi Mark, has there been a problem lately with filling the location box when uploading a spotting? I haven't been able to add any new spottings because of that.

I used to think there weren't many spiders at all in NZ but I've leaned otherwise over the past few years.. and it's amazing how many have come from here.

A suggestion... it's best to leave scientific name blank unless you are absolutely sure. That way it pops up in the stream of unidentifieds and others will notice and offer comments. Identified spottings often get no further attention. If you have an ID in mind just put it in the notes.
I'm pretty sure this is the same as ours. They change dramatically as they grow so any 2 specimens will nearly always look somewhat different.
