Rough greensnake

Opheodrys aestivus

Description:

The rough greensnake has keeled scales that distinguish it from the smooth greensnake. Picture 2 is an enlargement to show the keeled scales better. As you can see, this snake can climb trees. This one was about five feet off the ground on the trunk of a pine tree. It looked almost as if someone posed it there and it was stuck, but shortly after I took this picture, it continued up the tree with ease.
