This appears to be related to the orange spider wasp http://www.oocities.org/brisbane_wasps/O... It does also look like a lycid beetle and is possibly a mimic.

Yes Alice the other possible genus is Hemipepsis but I do think we're pretty close. I will do some more research shortly.

Yeah they're always a difficult one to ID. Hopefully that ID is correct :)
