Red Fronted Tinker bird

Pogoniulus pusillus

Description:

Little Barbet, a small bird, 5-6cm high, creamy chest, black and white head with a bright red patch on the front above the beak. body black and white and yellow stripey. Quite a solid beak for such a little bird, and if you look carefully you can see the characteristic barbet whiskers.

Habitat:

Urban back yard with plenty of garden and nearby wasteland.

Notes:

Pogo was another window watcher. This particular house had mirrored windows, and it attracted a myriad of little boy birds who would sit for hours and challenge their own reflections. I'm sure it was responsible for wasting a lot of their energies and felt very bad sometimes.
