Common Kingfisher

Alcedo atthis

Description:

Small kingfisher. Lovely contrast of colours: blue upperparts, orange underparts and a white slash.

Habitat:

This one was spotted near a lake in Habanara, Sri Lanka. It caught a fish as I watched and ate it. Then it sat for a long time pondering whether it needed to dive again; decided against it and flew away.
