Catopsilia pomona/crocale
Seen in my garden in Tamil Nadu.
@martini. Thanks for the ID and info. I got a confirmation from Peter Smetacek at ButterflyIndia, that it is a Common Emigrant in India, and he lists the form as crocale, Catopsilia crocale. From wiki, it seems that it might have a different name at each end of it's migration, but both names are the same butterfly. I have included both...
Beautiful butterfly and picture pamsai; the composition of colors is very delicate =)
Pamela you can trust Martin's suggestion.... his observation mostly accurate.
Hello Pam. This lemon migrant, as we call them in Australia is a female. Your backlit image is magical but requires me to give some more detail. The obvious link to provide for the ID is this one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catopsilia_... but it also shows an image in backlit. That is the image on the yellow flower and looks the same as yours but identified as a male. I would never suggest that the Wiki thingy is wrong but merely ask you to check the following detail. Females have thicker marginal black markings. Females have a black central dot on the forewing. You can chose who to follow.
These don't occur in Melbourne so please keep on sharing.
martini do you know what this bug is?
