Description:

The empty shell of a giant African land snail (87 mm long).The invasive pest known as the East African land snail or the giant African land snail "is a species of large, air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Achatinidae. As they develop rapidly and produce large numbers of offspring, this mollusc is a serious invasive species. It is a voracious feeder, and recognized as a serious pest organism affecting agriculture, natural ecosystems, and human health and commerce." One of the top 100 invasive species in the world.

Habitat:

Spotted in a large semi-urban yard and garden adjacent to a disturbed patch of remnant lowland forest.
