Horned Sedge

Ptilothrix deusta

Description:

Ptilothrix deusta, commonly known as "horned sedge", is a slender tufted perennial sedge in the family Cyperaceae, and is native to south eastern Australia. It is usually seen in wet sandy soils in heathland, growing from 30-60 cm tall. It’s quite a unique sedge, wholly unremarkable until it flowers!

Habitat:

Spotted along the Racecourse Creek Track in Girraween National Park, southeast Queensland. Dry sclerophyll forest with sandy granite soils, substantial undergrowth and accumulated leaf litter. Sunny aspect, and looking fresh after recent rain. Here's some park info - http://www.rymich.com/girraween/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Girraween_...

Notes:

Sedges superficially resemble grass. Some are very grass-like, but are not actually grass.

My pleasure, ornithoptera80. First time I've had a really good look at it. Quite unusual.
