Monarch Butterfly

Danaus plexippus

Notes:

Saw several Monarch caterpillars munching on milkweed in our backyard a couple weeks ago. Spotted this chrysalis and have been keeping an eye on it. Found the chrysalis on the ground a few days ago so brought it inside and rigged up a temporary home. The monarch emerged this morning so we're giving it plenty of time to dry its wings before releasing it into our garden later today. Very exciting!
