It is a Liatris sp., possibly the Prairie Blazingstar (Liatris pycnostachya)

Yes I think it's a Liatris (aka "Blazing Star") species. Good call.

Pretty cool. Maybe a species of Liatris? I'm not sure but that's what it reminds me off.
