Description:

Medium sized tree to 8m, a pioneer mangrove species with a distinctive large flower (4cm across). Pic 4 shows a pneumatophore (root growing out of the ground) used for extra oxygen intake. The fruit is edible when ripe. Member of the Lythraceae family.
