Stilt-legged flies (mating)

Micropeza stigmatica

Description:

A predominantly tawny to reddish species with: two black bands on each femur; pale arista; and characteristic markings on the thorax. (information from BugGuide)

Our very own BugEric told me that the double banding on the femur is indicative of this species.

Habitat:

Resort garden

Notes:

I watched these flies for a while and got to see quite a bit of courtship before actual mating. I wish more photos had turned out but these 2 were constantly on the move. :-)
