Elanus caeruleus
A small Kite. Dark grey on the wings, light grey on the body and quite white on the face, short sharply curved beak, black stripe across the top of the eyes, very red eyes.
Seen in open grassland in serengeti
Beautiful,
Yes, I was also confused by the range, but it is indeed Black winged. Thank you !
I agree with Elanus caeruleus but it is generally accepted that the Common Name for this species is Black-shouldered Kite following the separation of the Australian Black-winged Kite into a species in its own right.
Looks like a Black-winged kite, Elanus caeruleus, although I am not sure if it happens in Tanzania. Congrats, it is a good spotting. Some of them winter here in Spain
