Thin-walled Maze Polypore

Daedaleopsis confragosa

There were four fruitbodies on a fallen tree, and three more on a still standing birch in our shared garden. Fruitbodies are about 12 to 15 cm across, corky on touch, half-spherical in shape, flat above and about 1,5 cm thick, almost uniformly. Seen from above, it shows concentric circles line and rings. Undersides (pics N° 2 and 5) shows a maze-like pattern designed by a thin walled pores. The fungus provokes the white rot in trees.

Observed growing on an isolated birch tree in our garden, suburban Geneva, rural environment, Geneva lake valley. garden continues on pasture, bordering an oak forest.
