Crab

Description:

This is a medium crab, about 8-10cm across the body. His body was mottly green and grey and black, blending with the rocks and coral. But the underside of his legs were blue and yellow and red. The smaller segments on his legs were striped dark olive green and black, with quite spiney hairs on them. His eyes were large and olive green, and around the mouth on this one was a dark olive green patch also.

Habitat:

Seen on the surface in the open of coral and rock pools area on the beach of the east coast.

Notes:

I didn't see him because the top of his legs and carapace was so well camouflaged, he was forced to alert me to his presence and threaten me with his awesome underbelly colour display and snapping nippers, with which he danced around a bit and then decided it was best to hide again.
