Nature School For Teachers - Fall 2020 Launch!
Spindasis lohita, Lycaenidae
What a Beauty!
It definitely works!!http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/818...Also in other butterflies with fake markings:http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/828...
@Carol Snow Milne 2I don't know that there is a special name for the decoy antennae and eyespots on Hairstreaks and other Lycaenid butterflies. But I think they certainly work. I have seen many of them with parts of their hindwings missing from predator attacks (most likely birds) which has allowed them another life.......
WOW! I love your butterfly. What are the fake antennae called in the back. I see those on Gray Hairstreak here in PA. They are also moving and have fooled me many times.
@Ashish NimkarNot specifically, but just browsing now through some southern Asian butterfly sites, I have arrived at the conclusion that this is a Long-Banded Silverline rather than a Club Silverline.
@Sinobug Do you have any reference link showing difference in Silverline species...?
awesome! i love silverlines :)
