@Carol Snow Milne 2 I don't know that there is a special name for the decoy antennae and eyespots on Hairstreaks and other Lycaenid butterflies. But I think they certainly work. I have seen many of them with parts of their hindwings missing from predator attacks (most likely birds) which has allowed them another life.......
WOW! I love your butterfly. What are the fake antennae called in the back. I see those on Gray Hairstreak here in PA. They are also moving and have fooled me many times.
@Ashish Nimkar Not specifically, but just browsing now through some southern Asian butterfly sites, I have arrived at the conclusion that this is a Long-Banded Silverline rather than a Club Silverline.
