Polygonia comma
Small butterfly with seasonally variable coloration. The upperside of the forewings is brownish-orange with dark spots, while the upperside of the hindwings is much darker. The underside of the wings are mottled brown with a white comma in the middle of the hindwings. It has amazing camouflage when its wings are closed (see if you can find it among the sycamore leaves in pic 2).
Spotted sunning itself beside a river in a deciduous forest.
