Tearful Underwing Moth

Catocala lacrymosa

Description:

It looks like a black and gray moth with black and gray legs. It's shape is similar to an arrowhead. It also has scalloped wing tips and cream and gray stripes where the wings meet above the body.

Habitat:

It blends in so well with the pine bark. I had a hard time respotting it after it flew away, even though I saw where it landed.

Notes:

Spotted at Joe Budd Wildlife Management Area near Lake Talquin west of Tallahassee, FL
