Description:

Tufted perennial introduced to Australia as a pasture grass and now a declared weed listed as a key threatening process to biodiversity in the Northern Territory. Invades disturbed areas such as roadsides, spreading via wind dispersal, contaminated hay and dirty machinery. Best controlled by burning prior to flowering with a follow up herbicide treatment. Member of the Poaceae family.

Notes:

The Annual Mission Grass is similar but with a yellowy coloured less compacted seed head and weaker root system.
