Coppersmith Barbet

Psilopogon haemacephalus

Description:

Tiny. Colourful with mascara -eyes.The green feathers matches the leaves and the red matches the fruit. This bird is almost invisible as it feeds.

Habitat:

On a fruiting Banyan tree (Ficus benghalensis) in my office. It is somehow very satisfying to know that there are fruits that humans do not eat...and which can sustain the birds.

Notes:

When the fruit is ripe this tree is a bird magnet, I saw the crow, mynah, pied myna, woodpecker, chestnut-headed starling, barbets...all enjoying a lovely lunch. This is the way the seeds will be spread.., bird poo.
