Neat Feather-moss

Pseudoscleropodium purum

Description:

A pale green moss with short regular opposite shoots about 2 to 3 cm long. They looked like green feathery mats on the forest floor cushioning dead tree banches and leaves.

Habitat:

Damp temperate forest - Dandenong Ranges.

Notes:

An introduced from Europe is now seen in many parts of the world.
This moss propogates vegetatively with sporophytes (moss capsules) rarely seen. When they do occur, the stalks of the capsules (setae) range between 2 to 5 cms.
