Beach Hibiscus

Hibiscus tilliacues

Description:

Small rounded tree occurring along the beach. Similar to Abutilon indicum (but the center of the flower is dark) and Thespesia populneoides (but the underside of the leaf is white). The roots, flowers and young leaves are all edible. The wood was used by aboriginal people for spears and firesticks and the bark used to make string and fishing nets. member of the Malvaceae
