Rufous-eyed Stream Frog

Duellmanohyla rufioculis

Description:

An endemic species, can grow to 4cm, red eyes with horizontal pupils

Habitat:

humid forests, rainforest, found only in Costa Rica

Notes:

I spotted this species at the Guayacan Forest Reserve. Was part of an epic 5 hour night hike with just the owner, who is also a professional guide and super knowledgable, wandering in the rainforest looking for species on my wish list. Amazingly we spotted 6 out of 9 species I was looking for.

Thanks a lot Mark! It was a great night for frogs and I do have decent frog eyes but unfortunately I can't take the credit on this one, it was the hard work and knowledge of the reserve owner who made it happen. He knows where to find most of the species so I thought it best to utilize his expertise, since I could only afford to stay a couple nights.

Gorgeous shots Dan and a really attractive species. Six out of nine in one foray is pretty impressive. You obviously had your frog spotting eyes working.
