Glistening Inky Cap

Coprinellus micaceus

Description:

Very thin, light-brownish cap when young, with long streaks on surface; hygrophanous. Thin whitish stalk. Cap is covered with a thin layer of glistening powder at first. Grows in dense clumps.

Habitat:

In small dense clumps; around hardwood stumps, tree roots, or buried wood in parks, lawns or fields.

Notes:

Edibility-Edible and said to have good flavor, when young. The far right picture is what the younger ones look like. The picture on the far right is an example of this mushroom when it is younger.
