Opodiphthera helena
Very large male Saturnid moth (170mm)
Impressive 'eye spots' on hind wings; super snappy socks.
Resting on a glossy black brick wall. Attracted to lights at midnight at the local fire station which is in part of the local national park.
Female was found at the same location 5 days earlier. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/187...

Very nice spotting! I like your new avatar too! ;-)
Thanks rangers!
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
Thanks Ava. They really are a pleasure to find. So big and gentle.

Thanks Jae. Bug season is here. Might make up for a hopeless fungi season :)
