Wool Sower

Callirhytis seminator

Description:

I just love these galls! Made by the larvae of a tiny wasp, the wool sower galls look more like a craft supply puffball, than a wasp home. They are usually roundish, white and fluffy looking with reddish or pink spots. Galls are produced as a reaction by the host plant to the saliva and damage of the larva.

Habitat:

Temperate forest. Oak tree. Rockwood Park, Virginia.
