A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Miltochrista ziczac
Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Arthropoda Class: Insecta Order: Lepidoptera Family: Arctiidae
Subtropical mountainous area, dense brush and trees.
The Ziczac Footman moth featured in this photo was laying gently on top of the water inside a drum, and only measured about 1 cm in length. Unfortunately it was already dead, although it still looked so alive. The patterns on its wings (to me) are a real work of art. The lines look as if they were painted on by an amazing artist. The way they flow and the colors are truly breathtaking.

Beautiful!
Then you are here at the right place, Wesley!! You learn a lot about fauna and flora if you search the name of one of your spottings and we all are also very happy to help each other! And we always learn from each other as well. So, stay tuned with your love of nature and photography!! My comment was just a little "picky" help, that the search engines are not confused by several names and as you already perfectly have done, you added some tags, which many people (including me!) often forget and you even have the correct taxonomic names :-)!
It is indeed Erebidae, Arctiinae, Lithosiini.
Thank you bayucca! Please bear with me, I have a great love for photography and am very novice when it comes to identifying creatures by their scientific names. I really do appreciate you taking the time out to educate me on the matter. :)
And "Ziczac Footman Moth" is OK as common name.
Nice spotting, Wesley! Please, do only include the binomial species name in the field of the scientific name. All other taxonomic names just add in the description section. This info is really helpful, but should not be included in the scientific field. Thanks.
