Long-nosed Planthopper

Dictyophara sp.

Description:

Dictyopharidae; Dictyopharinae; Dictyopharini; Dictyophara sp. I first saw one of these Long-nosed Planthoppers in 2015. Since then, I have observed them many times, but the end result of all my attempts at identification have ended in exactly the same way. I follow all the clues that I can find and they always lead me to the conclusion that this looks exactly like Dictyophara nakanosis (Matsumura, 1910). The problem is, of course, that there is no documented presence in Philippines (at least, none that I can find). So, I can say with great confidence that this is Dictyophara sp., but no more than that.

Habitat:

These Dictyophara spp. were spotted on Tropical Whiteweed (Ageratum conyzoides) near an irrigation well in a rice field. Plant identification - http://stuartxchange.com/Bulak.html

Notes:

The final picture is just to show the habitat. This Tropical Whiteweed attracts many different kinds of insects. There is always something of interest on it at any time of the year.
