Carpetane Rock Lizard; Lagartija Carpetana

Description:

Iberolacerta cyreni is a species of lizard in the Lacertidae family. It is endemic to central Spain mountain heights between 1.600 y 2.500 m. The Carpetane rock lizard is a small lizard, up to 84 mm, with an exceptionally long tail (up to137 mm) almost twice the length of its body! While young lizards and many adult females are brown, adult males and some adult females are brilliant green, each stained with an irregular pattern of mottled black blotches, which become denser on the flanks, enclosing paler dots. The stomach is whitish to bluish. Juveniles tend to be brownish-grey with a vibrant metallic blue-green tail.

Habitat:

Its natural habitat is high mountains rocky areas. It is threatened by habitat loss. Spotted at 2000 m. above the sea level, at rocks and shrubs habitat. Parque Nacional de Sierra de Guadarrama, Peñalara
