Great Horned Owl

Bubo virginianus

Description:

Young bird. possibly a fledgling. Downy feathers and doesn't have well defined horns or tail yet.

Habitat:

Urban area combination of river bottom, park and neighborhood.

Notes:

I was approx. 4" away when I snapped this picture. Owl didn't even blink and barely moved it's head to keep me in sight.

Sounds like he was trying to hide in plain sight by imitating a branch! Little did he know... ;-)
