Malay Birdwing

Troides amphrysus

Description:

Saw this beautiful Malay Birdwing feeding on a big Bauhinia tree, floating from one flower after another, stopping to feed but even when feeding, the wings are constantly flapping, making it very difficult to get a clear picture of them.

No problem. I was hoping you will be angry because I broke your hope of T. andromache because it is a rare species. Haha

Thanks, @Chun for the correction.

Hate to break to fun but this is in fact a Troides amphrysus (female). There are four species of this genus on Borneo and they all are almost similar and also quite variable.

T. andromache are rare and found in higher elevations. I am still looking out for records of T. andromache in this Tawau. Chances are higher to find it on Lucia and Magdalena.
