Odontomachus sp.
Dark red ant with a big head and mandibles. About 12 mm long. Genus Dorylus
Semi tropical.
Hi Luis. Love these ants. We have an Odontomachus Trap-Jaw in San Cristobal, small one, and I found a ground nest once, it seemed to be small and they were drying some pupae on the surface. I see them out hunting, solitary. I don't know which one it is yet. Yours is definitely not Odontomachus rixosus which only occurs in southeast asia (http://www.antweb.org/description.do?gen...). Yours might be Odontomachus brunneus (http://www.antweb.org/description.do?nam...), but I am not sure and it would be better to put only Odontomachus sp. for the ID.
