Stilt-legged Fly

Grallipeza nebulosa

Description:

A fascinating fly, maybe a bit over 1/2". Long legs, frequently rubs front pair together. Obvious white feet. Not aggressive, and not jumpy. I've even coaxed one onto my finger for a moment.

Habitat:

Silver Springs State Park. Mixture of LongLeaf Pine Sandhill and Hardwood Hammock (Oaks, magnolia, etcetera )

Notes:

I love their white feet. Not very timid, and definitely not aggressive. I've been seeing these for a long time, but have never found what they are. I am very curious to find out!

Wow. It sure fooled me! I've grown rather fond of these. They don't bother us in the Ranger Station, and they are fun to watch.
