Description:

A saw several breeding pairs showing their breeding plumage. A small dabbling duck that is mostly a year-round residence in the PNW. The male is distinguished from other ducks with a vertical white shoulder bar.

Habitat:

Spotted in the mudflats with an incoming tide along the Nisqually Estuary Boardwalk Trail at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge.
